Why talk about my lifestyle in India? Well, the point I wish to make in this page is, I will be working towards my 5-to-5-in-12 goal, without denting my current lifestyle. I will continue to take International holidays, buying the best of products I have been buying and taking days off with family.
What was my lifestyle in India like?
I am a millennial, all of 28 years old. As I said, after 10 years of working all I could manage to save was Rs.5,19,000. Most of this is thanks to my shrewd mother who made nagged me into saving a little bit.
In other words, like most other millennial you meet around my age, I am a gadget freak, watch freak, perfume freak, party freak and travel freak. While I have taken the initiative to start this journey towards my financial freedom, most of my friends are still enjoying themselves worry free of goals.
To give a view of how big a spend thrift I have been:
- I have a collection of watches that cost me over Rs.2,40,000 in total
- My perfumes would add up to another Rs.70,000
- Latest X-Box, Smart watch, $1000 plus phone, Mac, Kindle, 4K premium brand smart TV, you name it, I got it
- In the past 6 years, I have covered Paris, Thailand, Singapore, China, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Dubai. Each trip was for a minimum of 8 days to ensure I missed out nothing and enjoyed thoroughly. Not to mention a number of places within India
I am extremely proud of the fact that I accomplished all this on my own, I did not take any money from my parents. What I am not proud of is the fact that, thinking back now, I could have dialed all this down a notch.
To the point
I very well know getting through to my goal of 5-to-5-in-12 is going to be damn difficult. But I will not let this bow me down and start being a stingy miser. I will continue to enjoy a holiday here and there. I will buy the tech I so much love, take my family out for a quality time to upscale places.
What more, I am going to keep you updated on all this. This way I am doing things in moderation. More importantly, I will be proving to myself and the world that it is possible to save little and reach 5-to-5-in-12 while having fun in life.
